In short

Secure software development means treating security not as a layer added after release, but as part of every step from design to coding and deployment. At CoreTechs we build applications following OWASP guidance, embed code and dependency scanning in the release pipeline, run application security reviews for your existing software and implement the technical measures required by data protection law (KVKK and GDPR) in your software and infrastructure. Our focus is the security of web, mobile and enterprise applications and the infrastructure they run on.

Scope

Secure software development

  • Coding in line with OWASP principles
  • Code security scanning (SAST/DAST)
  • Dependency vulnerability tracking

Security testing

  • Authorized, contract-based penetration testing
  • Vulnerability scanning
  • Configuration audits

Compliance support

  • KVKK technical measures
  • Technical support for ISO 27001 readiness
  • Access and identity management

Deliverables

  • Security assessment report
  • Prioritized remediation plan
  • Verification tests

Who is it for?

  • Businesses that process customer, patient, employee or financial data and need privacy-compliant software
  • Software companies receiving security questionnaires, audit requests or security requirements from enterprise customers or partners
  • Organizations unsure about the security of an application built by another vendor or grown over years
  • Teams building a new product that want security designed in from the start rather than costly fixes later
  • Companies preparing for ISO 27001 that need technical support on the software and infrastructure side
  • Development teams that cannot keep up with vulnerabilities in the open-source components they use

How we work

  1. Scoping and threat modeling

Together we map what data your application processes, who accesses it with which permissions and which entry points are exposed. From this we identify the most likely threats and priority review areas, and agree the scope and rules of engagement in writing.

  2. Application security review

We examine the source code with static analysis (SAST) tools and manual code review, and the running application with dynamic scanning (DAST) and authorized manual testing. Authentication, authorization, input validation, session management and sensitive data storage are assessed against OWASP guidance.

  3. Infrastructure and configuration review

We audit server, database, cloud account and container configurations for open ports, excessive permissions, unencrypted data, missing logging and outdated components.

  4. Reporting and prioritized remediation

Findings are reported with risk level, impact and concrete remediation guidance. Technical teams receive detailed findings and management gets a clear summary. Your team can apply the fixes, or our software team can do it for you.

  5. Retesting and continuous security

After remediation, we retest to confirm findings are actually closed. For lasting protection we add SAST, dependency and image scanning to your CI/CD pipeline and train your team in secure coding.

How long does it take?

The duration of a security review and remediation depends on application size, the variety of roles and permissions, whether source code is available, the number of integrations and how quickly findings are fixed. After a free 30-minute initial call, we usually start discovery within a week; once scope is clear, we provide a firm quote in writing. In new development projects, security steps are built into every two-week sprint.

Phases

  1. Scope and authorizationSystems in scope, rules of engagement, time windows and written authorization are agreed.
  2. ReviewCode review, automated scans, manual testing and configuration checks are carried out.
  3. ReportingFindings are ranked by risk, with remediation guidance and an executive summary.
  4. RemediationPriority findings are fixed by your team or by us.
  5. Retest and continuous securityClosed findings are retested and automated scans are added to the release pipeline.

What drives the cost?

The cost of a security review and secure software development work depends on the size of the system and the depth required. We share a budget range in the initial call and a firm quote once scope is clear. For existing software you can also start with our Technical Audit Package, which covers code quality, security and performance.

Factors that determine the cost
FactorEffect on cost
Application size and number of screensMore modules, API endpoints and workflows mean more test cases and review time.
Variety of roles and permissionsPrivilege escalation checks are run separately for each user role, so more roles mean more effort.
Access to source codeWith source code, the review is both more thorough and more efficient; black-box testing alone gives a more limited picture.
Number of platformsReviewing web, mobile and API together expands scope compared with a single platform.
Infrastructure scopeIncluding server, cloud account and network configuration requires additional review.
Remediation responsibilityHaving us fix the findings adds development effort compared with a report-only engagement.
ContinuityA one-off review is priced differently from a continuous model with automated scans on every release and periodic re-reviews.

Example solution scenario

Preparing a web application for an enterprise customer's requirements

Representative scenario, not a real client project.

Profile
A software company offering a web-based service to enterprise customers and processing personal data.
Need
A large enterprise prospect asked for a detailed security questionnaire and an application security assessment before signing. The application had grown over the years with different developers: authorization checks were inconsistent, some open-source components were outdated and there was no record of where and how personal data was stored.
Approach
  • The application's data flows and personal data inventory were mapped, along with roles and permissions.
  • Source code was reviewed with SAST tools and manual inspection; the running application was tested with DAST and authorized manual testing.
  • Findings were prioritized by risk; authorization checks were centralized and outdated components were updated.
  • Encryption, access logging and data retention for sensitive fields were aligned with KVKK technical measures.
  • Retests confirmed the fixes, and dependency and code scanning were added to the CI/CD pipeline.
Technologies
  • OWASP ASVS
  • Semgrep
  • OWASP ZAP
  • Trivy
  • Dependabot
  • HashiCorp Vault
Outcome
The company was able to answer the security questionnaire with documented evidence and share the assessment report with its customer. Critical findings were closed, new vulnerabilities are now caught automatically on every release and the team has made secure coding part of its daily work.

Frequently asked questions

What does secure software development mean in practice?

It means threat modeling during requirements, OWASP practices and code review during development, automated code and dependency scanning in the pipeline, and security testing before release. Vulnerabilities are caught before they reach production, at the stage where they are easiest to fix.

What do you take on for KVKK or GDPR-compliant software?

We implement the technical measures in software and infrastructure: access control, encryption, logging, data minimization, and the technical side of retention and deletion. Privacy notices, regulatory registrations and legal assessment are the domain of your legal advisor, and we work in coordination with them.

Can you review an application you did not build?

Yes. We review applications built by other vendors or by your own team. Access to source code makes the review far more thorough; without it, we test the running application from the outside and the report states this limitation clearly.

Will testing affect our production system?

Wherever possible, we test in a production-like staging environment. If production testing is needed, scope, time windows and prohibited actions are agreed with you in writing beforehand, and we do not run tests that could cause a service outage.

What if we are required to have a formally certified penetration test?

Some regulations require penetration tests to be carried out by organizations holding specific accreditations. If that applies to you, we clarify it in the initial call. We support you with application security review, remediation of findings and secure development, preparing your application ahead of the formal test.

Who fixes the findings in the report?

That is your choice. Your team can work from the detailed findings and remediation guidance, or our software team can apply the fixes. Either way, we retest to confirm the findings are closed.

Are findings and reports kept confidential?

Yes. A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is signed before work begins. Findings are shared only with the people you designate, through encrypted channels, and any data obtained during testing is destroyed at the end of the engagement.
